Hello My Name is Katera Abrams! I received my master's degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). I have been providing Pediatric Constraint Induced Therapy for approximately 13 years now. As the former director of UAB Pediatric Neuromotor Clinic I decided to continue to focus on providing children ages 14months-18 years of age with constraint induced occupational therapy services and/or intensive occupational therapy services with a variety of treatment options specific to your child's needs. Most of my clients have been diagnosed with Neuromotor Disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, Hemiparesis, Stroke, Brain Injury, Hemispherectomy, Brachial Plexus Injury.  Here at AIOT we have also provided only intensive occupational therapy for children with various diagnoses such as chromosomal disorders and or diagnoses listed above coupled with a diagnosis of autism. A majority of my treatment population have one sided weakness and  require occupational therapy to increase the child's functional independence in decreasing the lack of use of the affected extremity, gross/fine motor coordination, ADLs, etc.  Therapy services are currently offered in the home or apartment acquired for the month in the Birmingham, Alabama area.  It is important to provide therapy in the natural environment to help with transitioning into the home environment.  This also allows the child to feel more comfortable while in therapy. The most requested therapy consists of  intensive treatments of 20-6 hour  therapy sessions for 4 weeks. However other intensive therapy options are also available upon request and approval of the therapist. In addition each family will be provided with a detailed home program to share with all of the major contributors in your child's life. Your child is your most precious gift and seeking therapy to increase independence in their lives is what makes you as the parent very special.
